I'm going to watch a bit more before talking about the show again, but I've been having some language fun. As usual, a lot of the dialog is going completely over my head. Some weeks I have trouble understanding even Tingting, who has a good idea about my vocabulary and how I'm doing. So she's not using lots of obscure Mandarin words or talking philosophy with me. It's just conversational, but often I have trouble.

After Yu Ze Cheng and Zuo Lan see each other at the gathering, there's a scene with Ze Cheng and Cui Ping. She's angry. He asks, "Is it because I didn't pay attention to you at the gathering?" (是不是我今天在会场上没理你呀)

I was typing a sentence. In OSX, switching over to Chinese is easy, and you just type in pinyin and choose the character you want from the options you're given. (I use Windows at home, where I can do this but sometimes it doesn't quite work right. I don't know why, it's probably me.)

I realized yesterday that I'm starting to get confused with all the words that sound like yuan. Some of these are easier to distinguish, but others... I'll be like... okay, "hospital" ends in which one again?

At ChinesePod.com, you can go to a tab that has a little graph showing how far you've gone. I do a certain amount of learning a week from actual lessons, and then a bunch of other learning... like watching dramas. (When I'm watching something in Mandarin, I pause a lot to write things down.)
